9-1-1 Cell Phone Program

FCC (Federal Communications Commission) regulation requires that 9-1-1 calls be connected at no charge from all wireless phones whether they have been activated for paid service or not. However, since there is no service agreement connected with these phones, there is no call back number for 9-1-1 call takers. Calls made to 9-1-1 are contingent upon the caller telling the call taker where they are.

The adoption fees are $75 for a male dog, $85 for a female dog, and $55 for a cat. These fees include a rabies vaccination, a microchip and all vaccinations for influenza/parvo/etc.

Not even the best professional can tell you if your animal has rabies. The best way to tell is to quarantine the animal for ten (10) days. There is no live animal test for rabies. Clinical signs include a change in behavior, loss of motor apparatus in hind legs, drooling from the mouth, baying or howling. Contact the animal shelter or your veterinarian for more information, or if you feel your animal has rabies or was exposed to an animal with rabies.

Yes. You must be at least 18 years of age and have a clear criminal history to volunteer at the Weatherford / Parker County Animal Shelter. Volunteers are needed to help socialize the animals, assist with adoptions, assist with fund raising efforts, and assist with kennels, ground cleaning and maintenance. Donate items such as dog and cat food, kitty litter, collars and leashes, laundry detergent and bleach. Donations can be brought directly to the shelter. Make a monetary contribution in the form of cash, check or money order made payable to the Weatherford Animal Shelter Building Improvement Fund. Monetary contributions may be mailed to Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter, 403 Hickory Lane, Weatherford, Texas 76086. Purchase a memorial brick for $100, which can be engraved in honor or memory of a beloved family member or pet. A memorial wall will be erected as part of the new construction.

In January 2007, the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter began a low cost spay and neuter program for elderly and low income citizens of Parker County. You must be a Parker County resident and you must provide proof of governmental financial assistance. All Contractors, the "Master License Holder", must register with the City.

Consumer Health

Yes, anyone inside the City of Weatherford must have a permit to sell or give away food to the general public.

No, however, you may prepare cakes, cupcakes, cookies or pastries with low water content at temporary bake sales.

If your employer sells food and/or has a food establishment operating permit, the answer is yes.
|
|
|
You may call the Consumer Health Department at 817-598-4486 and register. Payments will be received in the Planning and Development Department at 119 Palo Pinto. Food classes are conducted at the Weatherford Public Library, 1014 Charles Street.

Customer Services/Utility Billing

The City of Weatherford Customer Service Department is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. Although, there is a night drop on the west side of the building that can be accessed 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

We are located at 303 Palo Pinto Street, three blocks west of the main courthouse on the square on the south side of Palo Pinto Street in main city hall.

The deposit required is $200 on all residential accounts. If you can obtain an acceptable letter of credit from a previous utility company within the last 12 months then the deposit will be waived.

You will be required to bring two forms of identification (one picture) and the lease agreement if renting the property. Unless married, all adults on the lease are required to be present and show identification.

The City of Weatherford provides electric, water, sewer and garbage to most homes inside the city limits. The gas service is provided by Texas Gas and can be reached at 817-594-2722.

Emergency Warning Information & FirstCall System
|
|
FirstCall is an automated telephone message delivery system used by the City of Weatherford during emergency situations which pose a threat to life or property or require citizen participation.
|
|
|
Areas throughout Parker County are covered by the FirstCall system but the Parker County system is operated by Parker County Officials.
|
|
|
Weatherford FirstCall will only be activated during emergencies in which there is a threat to life or property. Examples of such emergencies might be a hostage situation or a severe weather threat. On a smaller but no less life-threatening scale, citizens in a particular neighborhood might be alerted to search for a lost child or missing Alzheimer’s patient. Only officials of the Weatherford Fire or Police Departments can authorize activation of the system.

Upon activation, a message will be recorded and then sent by computer to telephones at addresses within the area designated by the Incident Commander.
|
|
|
If the message directs you to do something, such as stay in your house, follow the directions given. In situations such as this, you will be contacted when the emergency is over.
|
|
|
You will hear an introductory message stating, “This is the City of Weatherford. Please stand by for an Emergency Alert Message”, then the message will follow. If you are concerned that the message is not real, you can call your neighbors to see if they have gotten the same message. Or, as a last resort, call the Police Department. Remember, they will be busy! FirstCall is completely secure, but there is no way to ensure that someone will not try to imitate it for the wrong reasons. Use common sense.

Police will, if necessary, go door to door to notify people if there is a problem. Weatherford FirstCall dramatically reduces the number of personal contacts that emergency responders must make.
|

Fire Department
|
|
The ISO (Insurance Services Organization) is an advisory organization and the principal provider of rating and statistical information used by the insurance industry in the United States. Quality of public fire protection is one of the items of statistical information the ISO provides to the insurance industry. Under the PPC (Public Protection Class) program, the City of Weatherford has achieved a rating of 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the most desirable rating. Lower homeowner’s insurance rates are available as a City increases its PPC rating. In the fall of 2006, the City of Weatherford’s rate increased from a 5 to a 3.

Due to State of Texas regulations, control burns are no longer allowed inside the City of Weatherford. After April 30, 2003, it became illegal to perform any type of control burn within the city limits, including burning of cleared materials such as brush.

The hydrant is probably not broken but the Fire Department appreciates the public notifying us of such an event. From time to time, the city’s utility department will “flush” hydrants. In most cases, a gushing hydrant indicates that preventive maintenance is being performed on the hydrant. If you wish to report the hydrant, you may contact the Utilities Department or the Fire Department.

Our department is both a Paid and Reserve Department. The Weatherford Fire Department Reserves was formerly known as the Weatherford Volunteer Fire Department. Its membership consists of 15 firefighters who volunteer their time and service. Applications may be obtained from the Administrative Office at Station 1.

The Weatherford Fire Department welcomes visitors to tour our stations. For large groups or specific dates and times, we request that you contact the Department at least one week before the day you would like to visit. We can normally accommodate all requests, however, due to training, maintenance, and inspection activities, we request that you call ahead. Arrangements can also be made for our firefighters to visit daycares, schools, senior care centers, and other facilities.

Motor oil can usually be disposed of at most automobile parts stores and lube businesses, however, there may be a charge for this service. The lids of latex paint buckets may be removed, the paint allowed to dry completely, and then disposed of with regular household waste. Mercury thermometers may be dropped off at any fire station.

We do not recommend a specific brand of detector. Be sure when purchasing a smoke detector that a UL label is affixed.

Reports of fire incidents are available to the public by request. Please call Fire Department Administration at 817-598-4280 and request a report. Because the reports are computer generated, please notify the Fire Department in advance if you wish to obtain a copy, especially if the incident occurred prior to the year 2001. Please provide us with the date, time, and street address of the incident. The cost of a general report is $5.00.

If you have an emergency, hang up and dial 911. Administrative office hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. During those hours, we make every effort to make sure that someone is available to answer the Administrative telephone lines. However, there may be times when the telephones are extremely busy and there may be a delay in answering your call. After regular business hours, a firefighter will answer your call if they are not responding to an incident.

Your child may benefit from a visit to our fire station, where he/she can have a one-on-one conversation with firefighters about the dangers of playing with fire. Early attention to this problem is extremely important. Our Fire Marshal also actively participates in the Juvenile Firesetters Intervention Program.
