City Enacts Risk Level 1 of Mosquito Surveillance & Response Plan

On May 1, 2017 the City of Weatherford enacted Risk Level 1 of its Mosquito Surveillance & Response Plan. Risk Level 1 centers on the use of public information to promote source reduction and personal protection. Commence larviciding measures in known breeding sites using the best product for control, safety, and environmental conditions.

City personnel have made reducing mosquito breeding grounds a priority. In areas where the elimination of mosquito breeding grounds is not possible, larvicides will be applied. The City of Weatherford is conducting routine surveillance of adult mosquitoes. The collected mosquitoes will be identified and tested for the presence of arboviruses.

While the City is working proactively to control mosquito populations and lower the threat of the West Nile virus, citizen involvement is essential.
