Does the City of Weatherford have emergency public shelters?: No, the City does not have public shelters. In this area, storms develop very rapidly. It is not safe for citizens to be out in the storm once a warning has been issued. It is important that once a warning has been issued, citizens take immediate shelter inside individual sturdy structures with preferably no windows.

2. What is the difference between a watch and a warning?

A watch means that conditions are favorable for the severe weather event in or near the watch area.
Actions to take once the Watch has Been Issued:
Stay alert and pay attention to the news
Ensure your NOAA weather radio is working and has plenty of battery
Remain Alert
Be ready to move to a shelter

A warning means that a severe weather event is imminent or occurring in the warned area.

Actions to Take once the Warning has Been Issued:
Activate your emergency plan
Take shelter immediately
Tune in to local news or radio stations for additional information

3. When does the city conduct Outdoor Warning Siren Test?

The Outdoor Warning Siren Test will be conducted the first Wednesday of each month (weather permitting) at 1:00 pm.

The test will consist of a tone being sounded for 3 minutes then silence. All 10 of the sirens will be tested at the same time.

If the weather is overcast/cloudy/rain then then that monthly test will be cancelled.
