CHIEF OF POLICE 

JASON HAYES

A Weatherford native, Chief Hayes brings 24 years of dedicated law enforcement experience, all with the Weatherford Police Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Tarleton State University. In addition, he is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy and holds a Master Peace Officer License.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Chief Hayes has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to public safety and community service. His honors include Rookie of the Year, Officer of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and the City Manager’s Award for Excellence.
Chief Hayes’s deep-rooted connection to the community, coupled with his proven leadership and experience, positions him well to guide the department into its next chapter of excellence in public service.

Chalmers, Stewart

ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE

STEWART CHALMERS

Assistant Chief Stewart Chalmers has proudly served as a Police Officer since 2001. He got his start with the Abilene Police Department after graduating from the Abilene Police Academy, and in 2006, he made his way to the Weatherford Police Department. Chalmers holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Oklahoma. He’s also a graduate of the CAIL Institute for Law Enforcement’s School of Police Supervision and Northwestern University’s prestigious School of Police Staff and Command. On top of that, he’s TEEX Certified in Collision Reconstruction.

Pittman, James

ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE

JAMES PITTMAN

After 27 years with the Bedford Police Department, Pittman brought his experience—and his heart for patrol—to WPD in 2019. Since then, he’s served as Patrol Officer, Corporal, Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant before earning this latest promotion. Pittman is deeply committed to officer mentorship and field leadership. His passion for guiding others, paired with his dedication to proactive policing, makes him an incredible asset to our team and our community.
