What does a telecommunicator do?
Telecommunicators are the vital link between the public and first responders. They answer 911 calls, dispatch police officers, and provide critical support during high-stress situations. It’s a fast-paced, rewarding career that requires clear communication, quick thinking, and a steady presence under pressure.

Tips to get ready:

• Sharpen your typing and multitasking skills. You'll often be entering information while speaking on the phone.

• Practice staying calm in stressful situations. Think through how you'd respond to a variety of emergency scenarios.

• Familiarize yourself with public safety terminology. This will give you a head start when training begins.

• Stay physically and mentally healthy. This job requires focus, resilience, and emotional strength.

• Check your hearing and background. Passing a hearing test and background check is part of the hiring process.
