Subject: Solicitation by vendor NOT affiliated with City of Weatherford
The City of Weatherford has been notified by a vendor, American Water Resources, that they will soon be mailing a solicitation to residents in our area offering a service contract for maintenance of private water and sewer pipelines. These types of letters can often be confusing for residents, as some residents may think that the City is responsible for the letter, or that the City is recommending the service to residents. This vendor has sent similar advertisements to residents in the past, and many residents were confused about the City's involvement or affiliation. Please be advised that this vendor is not affiliated with the City of Weatherford.
The purpose of this letter is not to persuade residents one way or the other, but simply to let you know that this vendor is not affiliated with the City of Weatherford. Residents should use their own judgment, as they would with any other service or maintenance contract, when deciding whether to subscribe to this service or not.
We are also providing information below regarding some frequently asked questions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the City of Weatherford partner with American Water Resources for the services provided by American Water Resources?
No, the City of Weatherford is not affiliated with American Water Resources, nor any other company for providing service contracts of this nature to customers.
Does the City of Weatherford recommend customers subscribe to this service from American Water Resources?
The City of Weatherford is not trying to persuade customers one way or the other. Customers should use their own judgment, as they would with any other service or maintenance contract, when deciding whether to subscribe to this service or not.
Is a customer responsible for repairs to private water service lines?
Yes, the customer is responsible for any damages to the water service line from the customer's water meter to the home or business. The city is responsible for maintenance of the public water main and the service line up to the water meter, including the meter.
Is the customer responsible for repairs to private sewer service lines?
Yes, the customer is responsible for any damages/repairs to the sewer service line from the customer's property line to the home or business. Typically, there may be a sewer cleanout near the property line that is used for cleaning of the sewer service. This cleanout marks the separation between the City's responsibility and the customer's responsibility. In the absence of a cleanout at/near the property line, the location of the property line is used as the point of separation between the City's and customer's responsibility. Sometimes a customer may have a cleanout near an exterior wall of the house or business- this cleanout is not the point of separation between the City's and customer's responsibility.
Does the City of Weatherford use any other vendors to contact customers regarding water services?
Yes, the City utilizes Vepo, LLC to manage and maintain records of the backflow prevention program. Commercial and residential customers may receive notifications from Vepo, LLC regarding testing of their backflow prevention devices. Customers are required to periodically have their backflow prevention devices tested and submit the results online at https://www.vepollc.com/.
